Death of an Ambassador = Dead Foreign Policy

In Benghazi, Libya, Ambassador Christopher Stevens was ambushed, dragged through the streets and suffocated to death by Al Qaeda factions yesterday.  Three other Americans were killed, including a Marine.  The embassy was burned.  The Libyan security forces were outnumbered and ran away. This was apparently a well organized terrorist attack designed to coincide with September 11.

In Cairo, the embassy was attacked and the US flag stricken and replaced by a Muslim flag, on US sovereign soil within the embassy grounds.  Egyptian security forces were also ineffective.  For the past week, according to an Egyptian caller to KMJ radio who monitors Cairo news, the local media has been inciting outrage by playing parts of the anti-Muslim video that was produced in the Florida.  Word has it the video is stupid and should be ignored. But we have a 1st Amendment right to express free views and anything Muslim terrorists do to try to destroy that should be strongly resisted.  Unfortunately, neither Obama or Romney took that stand.

The worst part of all of this is how the White House was totally unprepared for these actions, and provided wishy-washy answers to the attacks. President Obama championed the Muslim Brotherhood last year - this is the result.  They perceive him as very weak.  They know he does not understand the nature of the threats they pose and they will continue to press their attacks on the US.  Obama's foreign policy consists of appeasement and turning the other cheek.  These will not work.  We can expect more attacks.

To make matters worse, the background of these happenings is the refusal by President Obama to meet with Israeli President Netanyahu, who is desirous of an emergency meeting to discuss the nuclear developments in Iran.  The Iranain crisis is ongoing and escalating, with the rhetoric getting hotter, the IAEA announcing Iran is producing 20% enriched uranium and has just placed 1026 more centrifuges online. Instead, Obama's calendar is full of appearances on Letterman and talk radio.
