With Friends Like These...

I have long been of the the opinion that the United Nations has lost its way, both morally and politically.  It has been taken over by the totalitarian countries whose goals are to increase government control and destroy individual liberties.  Worse, many Western countries have turned into wussies and do not stand up for democracy or right and wrong anymore.  Political correctness rules everywhere.

For instance, would you want this guy on your side?  From Breitbart:

UN Human Rights Official Says Boston Got What It Deserved

22 Apr 2013

UN Human Rights Council “expert” Richard Falk has published a statement saying Bostonians got what they deserved in last week’s terror attack.  He quotes W.H. Auden to make his point: "to whom evil is done/do evil in return.”

Richard Falk is the UN’s “Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.” He has held the post since 2008, despite exposure as a 9/11 conspiracy theorist.
In his latest rant, published online on April 21, 2013 by foreignpolicyjournal.com Falk repeats the libel that prior to 9/11 President George W. Bush was seeking a “pretext” for war, and that anything Israel is the opposite of “justice and peace.”
And then he attacks Bostonians head-on. The police action in Boston was a "hysterical dragnet."  Boston’s dead were "canaries" that "have to die" because of America’s “fantasy of global domination."
Falk explains the attacks as justifiable “resistance.” In his words: “The American global domination project is bound to generate all kinds of resistance in the post-colonial world.”
He minimizes the crime and predicts worse if America doesn’t change its ways to better accommodate the demands of “the Islamic world.” As he puts it: “In some respects, the United States has been fortunate not to experience worse blowbacks, and these may yet happen…”.
For years, Falk has been espousing the worst forms of antisemitism from his UN perch, and for his efforts has been rewarded with repeated opportunities by the Council to lecture others on his world view.
That world view is shared by the 56 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), who only a week ago at UN Headquarters refused to define terrorism unless an exception clause was created for “legitimate struggle.”
The OIC controls the balance of power at the UN’s top human rights body, by holding majorities in both the African and Asian regional groups. Africa and Asia, in turn, control 26 of the 47 seats on the Council. With the backing of the OIC, therefore, Falk has been encouraged and protected.
The Obama administration has long championed the UN Human Rights Council, which it decided to join as one of its first foreign policy moves in 2009. Thanks to the Obama administration, U.S. began a second three-year term on the Council this past January. At the opening of the Council’s most recent session in March, Assistant Secretary of State Esther Brimmer traveled to Geneva to address what she called “this esteemed body.”
There is nothing about a “human rights” body that countenances the likes of Richard Falk that is “esteemed,” and the United States should resign--effective immediately.

How Could it Be?: No Gun Licenses for Tsarnaev Boys

From Carol Platt Leibau:

"The AP reports that the men who detonated explosives to kill innocents at the Boston Marathons and later engaged in a shoot-out with police (after shooting an MIT security guard execution-style) didn't have gun permits, according to Massachusetts state police.

"But wait a minute.  I thought a rigorous system for regulating gun permits was supposed to prevent gun violence (that's what Massachusetts state officials insisted upon passing the nation's toughest gun laws back in 1998).

"It's almost as if the Tsarnaev brothers -- terrorists, murderers, carjackers -- had no respect for the (gun) laws . . . "

Commentor to last link states the reality:  LastMomStanding   "Only law abiding citizens must have background checks/gun permits. Criminals get a free pass.  Got it?!"

Propaganda in Our Schools

In Middletown, CT an eighth grade social studies class was given a worksheet about the 2nd Amendment.  Trouble was, it was entirely wrong. Many commentators are calling it propaganda. See image below:

Many commentators are calling it propaganda.  I agree, even allowing for the possibility that it was written prior to the Heller and McDonald decisions.  The overall tone is a progressive re-interpretation of the meaning of the 2nd and of the Constitution.  If schools are using tools that are this blatantly wrong and indoctrinating, how much more of this crap are we not seeing?

Here are some stories about this:
This link says that the school removed the worksheet after an uproar by parents and media.

Greg Gutfield on Self Defense

Greg compares Maya Angelou and Jim Carey and gets this one right.

BTW, Bob Bechel is almost always an ass, who says stupid stuff because he is paid to be the liberal counterpoint.

California Follows CT and CO into Tyranny

Registered to buy your ammo?  That's what the new Nancy Skinner bill AB 48 will do.  I won't be able to give my wife a few .22 rounds if this crap passes.

CA has a superiority of Democrats in the Governor's Office, Legislature and Senate.  Welcome to the tyranny of the commons.  And I thought we lived in a Republic, where the rights of all minorities are respected.

Connecticutt Also Driving out its Manufacturers

Just like in Colorado, firearms related businesses are considering leaving CT for brighter pastures.

I just heard Mark Malkowski, owner of Stag Arms, on NRA News say that his customers are asking him to leave the state.

Also speaking similarly, Jonathon Scalise of Ammunition Storage Components, a maker of magazines, announced ASC will probably leave New Britain, CT soon.  The new laws make their products illegal.

CT has just passed some more (as if they didn't already have some of the toughest) draconian gun control laws.  None of course would do anything to prevent the Newtown tragedy.  But they will make law-abiding citizens into criminals and they will prevent the necessary discussion about how to deal with mental illness.

I am Sad for Colorado - No Longer a Free State

It is sad that the voters (mostly Denver and Colorado Springs) and legislators in Colorado who helped to pass severe gun control bills last week have turned a former red state into a progressive non-free blue state.

Now we see some push back from folks who know better.  A dozen sheriffs are in Denver to day to protest President Obama's visit in which he is pushing he gun control agenda.  Almost all the 64 Colorado sheriffs oppose the new laws.

See message from Sheriff Shayne Heap of Elbert County:  Shayne-heap-co-sheriff-calls-out-obama-after-political-grandstanding-in-denver

And here is Denver Representative Diana Degette displaying her stupidity about firearms.  Isn't it sad that people like this are writing laws about firearms.

Aside:  Grand Junction and several other CO towns were in the running for my retirement communities two years ago.  I am sure glad I didn't make that leap into 2nd Amendment tyranny.

P.S.  Another gun related manufacturer has announced intentions to leave Colorado because of the new laws.  HiViz make gun sights using light gathering elements.  See:  fort-collins-gun-sight-maker-hiviz-relocate-following-new

"I make this announcement with mixed emotions," chief executive Phillip Howe said in a statement. "Colorado is a beautiful state with great people, but we cannot in clear conscience support with our taxes a state that has proven through recent legislation a willingness to infringe upon the constitutional rights of our customer base."

P.P.S   More lost tourist money for Colorado.  IDPA has canceled its regional tournament in Montrose.  Ruger has canceled its Rimfire Challenge World Championship in Byers.  And several groups will be boycotting hunting trips in CO this fall.   See here:  Pistol-group-cancels-colo-competition-because-new-gun

As is so often said:  Elections and legislation have consequences.

Thought Experiment

Let’s conduct a thought experiment.

If there was no mental illness and everyone owned five assault rifles,
how many senseless murders would occur?

If everyone was mentally ill and guns did not exist,
how many senseless murders would occur?

Thanks to Alan Corwin.
